The R51/2 was only produced in 1950 and 1951, so there aren't many around. And as you'd expect, parts are hard to come by. But since this one was already a mash up of various BMW bits, Ramon had no qualms continuing the theme. So he sourced some parts from the R51/2's successor—the R51/3.

Improvements incorporated into the R51/2 included a two-way damped front fork, gearbox mainshaft damper and strengthened frame. In truth, the R51/2 was only a stopgap model to get production under way while BMW worked on something more modern.

The BMW R51/3 was BMW 's second post- World War II 500 cc motorcycle, following the briefly produced R51/2. It featured a flat-twin engine and exposed drive shaft. [1] In 1951, the R51/3 succeeded and modernized the 1950 R51/2, which was essentially a pre-war design that was produced after the war.

BMW started by basically cloning its 250cc pre-war efforts, but once it was allowed to create bigger engines, the 494cc R51/2 was introduced - only for one year of production! Approximately 5,000 units were produced between '50 and '51, period reviews considered it a "Jekyll and Hyde" type bike, as Cycle magazine stated in 1950:
